Aligarh community kitchen keeps serving through the coldest week

Volunteers at a neighbourhood kitchen have not missed a night through a fortnight of near-freezing temperatures.
For fourteen straight evenings, a small kitchen on the edge of Aligarh's old city has served hot dal, rice and rotis to anyone who walks in.
The volunteers — teachers, students, an auto driver on his off days — say the point is not charity but neighbourliness. "If a family in your gali is skipping meals, that is your problem too," says the coordinator.
The kitchen runs on small donations pooled locally, and turns no one away. On the coldest night this week it served 312 plates.
